Interested in improving your photography and becoming a better photographer? My Introduction to Digital Photography course is just what you have been looking for!

Aimed at photographers who have just bought their first DSLR or mirrorless compact system camera, this course will teach you the skills needed to make the most of your new camera and go beyond the automatic mode. During this 8 week course, through a mixture of theory and practical classes, students will learn:

  • How their DSLR camera works.

  • What the various settings on the camera do and how they contribute to image creation.

  • How to manually control image creation.

  • Best camera settings for different photography situations.

  • The rules of image composition.

  • Basic post production image editing.

The course will challenge students to try out new types of photography and techniques, once they have mastered the basics. The course will culminate in a homework assignment that will allow the students to show off their new found skills and exhibit their work in front of their colleagues.

Course requirements: students must have a DSLR camera or mirrorless compact system camera and a tripod.

Course cost: £125.00

Endorsements by previous students:

“I thoroughly enjoyed this course from start to finish. Fraser not only has a vast amount of technical experience behind the camera, but a friendly and helpful approach in passing this information on. Personally I found his one-to-one interaction the most helpful element of the course- we weren’t just sat watching and listening; we could ask appropriate questions where necessary to keep us engaged. The balance between theory and practical was perfectly presented, giving us chance to learn something before then having a go at executing it. It was a light-hearted, fun environment with no pressure to go too far outside our comfort zone. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about how their camera work! 10/10.”

“Really enjoyed it, learned a lot and rekindled my interest. Good venue, very welcoming atmosphere. Really liked going out into town as a group.”

“I really enjoyed myself on this course, Fraser was really good at making you think of different perspectives when it comes to the different types of photography . The course was engaging and was not death by power point. I'm glad that we got to try out taking photos within Birmingham and of models. What I particularly enjoyed was the feedback from both Fraser and the rest of my course mates . We bounced ideas off each other taking us steps closer to being better photographers. It was also helpful that Fraser was flexible and if you missed a lesson he could catch you up on a different date (where else do you get that!) I could not recommend this course enough!”

“A great all round course - can’t say there was anything I didn’t enjoy!”

“I'm so glad I did this course! I now feel confident using my camera in manual mode and can't stop taking pictures. Fraser is very encouraging and I've learn't so much from him. I really enjoyed being part of the very friendly group and the sessions were always very collaborative. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to pick up their digital camera. Thank you so much Fraser! I will miss my Thursday evening classes!”

“I really enjoyed the course. It has given me a great deal of confidence in using my camera on the manual mode which I never got from books or manuals. It made a lot of difference to have the hands on tuition.”

“I had looked into College courses prior to signing up for the Introductory Photography course ran by Fraser and I feel really lucky that I chose the latter. There was a well balanced mix of learning through both classroom and practical activities. But also group discussions and being taught by someone as passionate about photography as Fraser was so valuable. Learning not only the technical skills of how to use a camera but also guidance on composition and insight into many different styles of photography. Some of which I hadn't ever considered trying before starting this program. I cannot recommend this course enough. Anyone starting out in photography or looking for more direction in how they want to develop their work, then this is the course for you. I met some fantastic people on the course all of which are amazing photographers. Looking forward to the advance course, I will definitely be signing up for that one!!!”
