Lundies House

October 2021 // Tongue, Scotland

North coast retreat

Lundies House is situated just outside the village of Tongue on the very far north coast of Scotland. This hotel, come country house, come retreat, provides understated luxury and gourmet dining for guests who book one of the limited 6 rooms available. Owned and ran by Wildlands (itself owned by Danish Billionaire Alexander Povlsen), the house feels like more of welcoming home when you walk through the front door, at once greeted by the alluring smells from the kitchen and the sounds of a Celtic playlist which varies throughout the day. You are soon greeted by Marta, an internationally experienced restaurant and hotel manager, who shows guests around the House and explains how the whole set up works. Relaxation is the key word when it comes to staying at Lundies, with the whole space open to guests. Evening meals are comprised of three incredible prepared and locally sourced meals (there is no menu, but you don't need one when the food is this good), but only after a welcoming drink from the help-yourself bar in the side sitting room. Breakfasts are similarly relaxed, just two courses, with an afternoon tea and freshly baked pastry available in the House around 3pm. The bedrooms are beautifully styled in Scandi simplicity with carefully selected pieces of furniture and art filling the spaces. The rest of house follows this interior design lead, which makes you feel welcome and comfortable, while also engaging you to appreciate their design and quality.
